General description:

MOLISA is a high tec based company devoted to the discovery and
development of novel pharmaceutical entities and was founded in 2002 in Magdeburg. The
complementary expertises of the founders, Prof. Dr. Dieter Schinzer and Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c.
Leopold Flohé, cover most of the technical disciplines required for the discovery and
development of novel drugs.

The general goal of MOLISA is the identification of novel pharmaceutical entities which
are a priori defined by their mechanism of action and posses optimum pharmacokinetic
characteristics ("small molecules"). The product finding concepts arose from the research
groups of the founders and are exploited by MOLISA. They aim at diverse therapeutic
areas, which imply the necessity to consider alternative strategies of development and
commercialization. A homogeneity of the product opportunities exist so far as they can all
be developed up to a commercially attractive level by MOLISA-specific technology. The
developments currently in progress aim at the following fields of application:

Infections by
- Trypanosoma species (Chagas disease; Sleeping sickness),
- Leishmania species (Kala Azar and related diseases),
- Plasmodia species (Malaria),
- Mycobacteria (tuberculosis),
- Malignant diseases,
- Control of male fertility.

In addition, MOLISA offers contract synthesis to pharmaceutical companies in order to
generate extra cash flow. This business has increased over the last few years and at the
moment MOLISA has 12 employees and has just moved to a new site with brand new
chemistry and biology labs.
