PMIL- Politecnico di Milano - Research Organisation
Organisation description
General description:
General description: Prof. Claudio Fuganti's group belongs to of Chimica, Materiali
e
Ingegneria Chimica "Giulio Natta" of Politecnico di Milano, which
is an Italian technical
university founded in 1863. The department was founded in 2001 by merging three
historical departments, namely Chimica, Chimica Fisica Applicata and Chimica
Industriale
e Ingegneria Chimica. The department's mission is to promote and to support
the central
role of chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science and engineering
throughout
the whole spectra of new technologies by offering advanced expertise in the
above fields.
Expertise
The main fields of activity of the group are:
- application of biocatalysis(baker's yeast-mediated reactions, lipase-catalysed kinetic resolutions) to
organic synthesis to obtain single enantiomers of biologically active molecules, such as drugs,
fragrances and flavours;
- authentication of the origin of flavours by deuterium NMR spectroscopy,
- assessment of the synthetic history of commercial drugs by deuterium NMR spectroscopy.
The group is intensively collaborating with Italian SMEs producing pharmaceutical
bulk
drugs (for optimization of synthetic procedures, for analytical and structural
characterisation
of intermediates, products, impurities) and with Italian companies producing
food flavours.
Facilities
Laboratories equipped for organic synthesis; NMR 250 MHz, 400MHz,
500MHz; FT/IR; LC/MS; GC/MS (EI); GC/MS (CI); HPLC.
Other European projects the organisation has been involved in:
---
Role in the project
Chair of WP2 -Synthesis; participation in WPs 1, 6, 7, 8.
